Celebrating 55 Years of Service: Dr. Glenn Chidlow
Celebrating 55 years of dedication: Dr. Glenn Chidlow’s legacy in chiropractic
Dr. Glenn Chidlow has spent over five decades not only serving patients but shaping the future of chiropractic through mentorship. For him, the greatest impact he’s made is helping others find their path in the profession, so they never have to walk it alone.
When he was accepted to Palmer College of Chiropractic 55 years ago, Dr. Chidlow inspired his best friend to join him. Later, he encouraged his sister, her husband, and eventually his daughter to become chiropractors. One of his proudest moments was watching his daughter graduate; she now practices in Chicago. Over the years, he has mentored many others, always encouraging them to seek guidance and community. His best advice: “Be true to yourself and find a mentor. You don’t have to do this alone.”
When Dr. Chidlow began his career in the mid-1960s, chiropractic care was far from mainstream. Few people knew what it was, and those who did had often discovered it through personal experience. He became a passionate advocate, helping to increase public awareness and elevate the profession’s profile.
Dr. Chidlow began his career in Red Deer before opening a clinic in Ponoka, where he served the community for 45 years. Now, he has come full circle, returning to Red Deer. One of the most remarkable aspects of his career was his 13 years serving northern Alberta communities. Twice a week, he flew solo in a single-engine plane with a treatment table and staff in tow, visiting towns like High Prairie, Slave Lake, Falher, and Valleyview. Patients would line up out the door to see him - a testament to both the need and his dedication.
He’s also witnessed the profession evolve. When he attended chiropractic college, only about five per cent of students were women. Today, that number is over 50 per cent, a shift he celebrates.
After 55 years, Dr. Chidlow’s impact is evident not only in the patients he’s helped but in the professionals he’s inspired. His story is one of passion, persistence, and purpose.
Congratulations, Dr. Chidlow, on 55 years of service to the chiropractic profession.
