Celebrating 60 Years of Service: Dr. Derrill Kenneth Ladell
Celebrating Dr. Derrill Kenneth Ladell's 60 years of leadership and service in chiropractic care
For six incredible decades, Dr. Derrill Kenneth (DK) Ladell has been a cornerstone of the chiropractic profession, caring for patients, mentoring future chiropractors, and advancing the field with tireless dedication. The Chiropractic Association of Alberta proudly celebrates his 60-year milestone, a powerful testament to his lifelong commitment to healing, leadership, and service.
From the outset of his career, Dr. Ladell stood out. Just five years into practice, he was recognized as the youngest active contributor by the Alberta College of Chiropractors. That same year, he chaired a national convention of Canadian chiropractors at Banff Springs Hotel - an early indication of his leadership and passion for the profession.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ladell has given back in extraordinary ways. He served as President of his local society in Calgary, Vice-President of the provincial association, and completed two terms with the Board of Governors of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. His contributions have helped shape the profession in Canada and inspired many to follow in his footsteps.
Dr. Ladell’s most meaningful impact lies in mentorship. He has guided more than 30 aspiring chiropractors, including his own son, sharing not just clinical wisdom, but also essential business acumen to help them thrive in all aspects of practice.
He appreciates the unique flexibility within chiropractic and the ability to adapt to both practitioner passion and patient need. That adaptability, paired with his lighthearted approach and ability to find humour in tough situations, reflects his deep care for the people he treats.
Nothing illustrates Dr. Ladell’s impact more than the relationships he has built. He still treats his very first patient. Recently, he found himself caring for three generations of the same family: a grandmother, her daughter, and a three-week-old baby; an extraordinary symbol of trust earned over time.
Dr. Ladell lives by a simple motto: “If you have a spine, you need a chiropractor.” He sees chiropractic care as essential preventive maintenance, and a tool for lifelong wellness.
As we celebrate 60 years of Dr. Ladell’s service, we celebrate more than a career. We celebrate a man whose generosity, leadership, and compassion have strengthened a profession and touched countless lives.
Congratulations, Dr. DK Ladell, on an extraordinary journey! Your legacy continues to inspire.
